2025 April Read and Review

2025_April

April, over already! The year is one-third done. That’s how life works, time runs in one direction. Except in good sci-fi, hey, that’s an idea for a next book to read!

April was a dry reading month; actually only finished one book. Started another, but I’ll save that for May. Wondering what I was up to all month? Me too, it flew by. I think having my son move home for a month while he transitions his life to move to Europe after retiring from the military, might have absorbed a chunk of my energy in April. As did year-end curling and tournaments, with associated social events. Glad to see the buds trying to come out, glad the river is running again, glad to settle into a quieter spring routine which of course will include more reading.

Anyway, here’s the page-turner (and it was) I devoured in April :

  • Linwood Barclay’s “I Will Ruin You”. I bought this in large print. Don’t get me started about e-readers and font changing – of course I do that myself, but my 98-year-old mother-in-law needs the paper version, and I decided to read it first. Luckily. A storyline that includes drug dealers and their typical language (you know, where the liberal use of f*** as noun, verb, adjective, expletive, etc. is effectively employed as a writing technique?) Typical fast-paced Barclay, the kind of book that plays in your head like a movie. A whodunnit with an ending I can live with and didn’t figure out too early. I quite enjoyed it, but Mom? Doubtful I’ll give it to her as she would be insulted by the language and confused by all the drug-dealer episodes. I know my audience here.

So come on May, the flooding was mild this year, the buds are becoming leaves, all shiny and freshie green! May is my favourite!
